Letter from Dalan's Mission President

September 10, 2010

Dear Brother and Sister Lerwill:

We are pleased to inform you that your son, Elder Dalan Lerwill, has been called to be a District Leader. We are grateful for Elder Lerwill's desire to serve and set an example to the other missionaries in his district. The position of district leader is one of responsibility and trust, requiring the utmost diligence, faithfulness, and obedience. A district leader must work in close association with all of the missionaries in his district to find, teach, and prepare individuals for baptism. One of the the most sacred and trusted responsibilities your son will have will be to interview candidates for baptism. In doing so, he will represent the Lord as He outlined in Doctrine and Covenants 20:37.

As a district leader your son will be responsible for the spiritual welfare and all aspects of missionary work in his district, as he serves with all of his heart, might, mind and strength. This experience will provide many opportunities for learning and growth as he works hard to fulfill these responsibilities.

In addition your son has been called to be a trainer for one of our new missionaries.  The calling of a trainer is the most important leadership position in the mission and one that is extended only to our trusted and effective missionaries. The role of a trainer has more influence on the future success of the missionary than any other single factor, including their experience at the Missionary Training Center. For this reason your son has been selected to play a key part in laying a firm foundation for this new missionary.

We are grateful for Elder Lerwill's service in the Arizona Mesa Mission and we thank you for raising such a fine missionary. Your encouragement and support is important and we urge you to continue sending letters that uplift and inspire your missionary in this important work. Thank you again for sharing your son with us.

Very truly yours,

R. Spence Ellsworth
Mission President
