Family Traditions

This is a picture I took the other day, the rainbow was so beautiful and full!
Family tradition #1 Halloween Jack O Lanterns! Bailey has always loved to carve pumpkins. I am so glad she doesn't think she is too big to do it anymore. We really missed Dalan doing it with us this year. His pumpkin turned to mush and was oozing (nasty), the pigs really liked it.

Family Tradition #2 Fishing in the creek after the water falls. The kids always have a blast doing this and it was the same this summer!

Just a Mess!

This is one of my favorite pictures of my Grandpa Curtis. He loved to go fishing and always caught a mess of fish. I wanted this in my book when I get my blog printed for our family scrapbook. Grandpa would have been 107 on September 24.

Dalan's Bull Elk

Elk Ivories

Wow what a night. Dalan was home from college and wanted to check out the elk situation so Monday morning him and his Dad went for a walk to see what they could find. Dalan needed to make a decision whether he was going to hunt bull or cows. They did not even make it to our gate above the yard and they saw the elk. They came back home because they didn't want to disturb them, because Dalan did not have a tag yet. He got ready and headed back out to school to get to his 9:00 class. Then he bought a bull tag and got stuff together and came back home. We had made arrangement for Kent and Allyson and Michael Sterling to come to our house and eat and then we were going to cut up the deer and let them take it. So before it got dark Stacy and Dalan headed out to go see if they could get into the elk. Sterlings came and we were waiting for them to get back. It kept getting darker and darker. Finally Stacy called to tell us Dalan had shot a 6 point bull elk. They were so excited. We ate and waited for them to get back. Finally they made it and they ate and then we cut up the deer and then all the guys headed back up to load the elk. Us girls had ice cream and talked. Needless to say it was a late night and I felt bad the Kent and Allyson had to go home so late, but Stacy loved having the extra muscles. It was a really big chested elk. Beautiful teeth as you can see. Dalan was so excited. It was a fun night. To tell a little of their story, they got right in the middle of the elk and got to hear the bull whistle over and over. They had cows about 20 yards from them when Dalan shot. It was pretty remarkable and unforgettable.

Macie and Stockton

This picture caused a small rift in our home. Katie sent 2 copies of it to our house. Well I told Bailey she could have the one and then Dalan came home and said he gets one. So, Katie we are short one!! It is sooooooooooooo cute!! We all had a die over it. Love you Macie and Stockton!

Bailey Freshman Picture 2009

Isn't she BEAUTIFUL! We love you Bailey.

What a Shot!

On Saturday the 17th of October 2009 we went for a drive looking for deer. We had an enjoyable drive enjoying each others company. We all said watch us drive up our driveway and see deer since we didn't see any up on the mountain. Well up by our hay stack guess what we saw?! Bailey didn't have her gun ready so Dalan said here shoot mine so she leaned over Dalan and shot the 30-06. She just had shot it that afternoon when they went and sited them in. Her adrenalin was running high enough she didn't even feel it kick. One shot and the deer went down hard. It was an awesome shot. Bailey had killed three deer in her life time and has shot 3 times!! She was so excited! It was great fun. Stacy gut it out how easy is that. Drove up to it in the pickup, warm weather, a creek right next to us and the barn just yards away. It was fun.

Harvest is done.

Dalan the Deer!

Bailey's Cute Halloween Pumpkin!

Yeh, we finished cutting grain just in time for Halloween. He He! We finished this afternoon with snow in the edges of the field. Crazy. Bailey got her wisdom teeth out on Friday and has been so miserable. She missed Friday school and did not go today. Hopefully she will be able to go tomorrow. I feel so bad for her. Cary and his family came on Friday and Saturday and we had a great time with them. It was really low key and enjoyable. Cary came up for Dirk Johnson's wedding. (might I add long awaited wedding) ha ha. Dalan also came and spent some time with us on Saturday and then hurried back for a nine o'clock date. (blind) He called this morning and talked to me a minute with cooking questions. Some lucky girl is going to get steak and cheese cake but he didn't know who. He is having a blast. What a socializer! He did not get that from his parents, I am not sure where it came from.

How awesome is Dalan. He didn't know he was cool as his Dad. This was taken in 1986
Bailey taken in 1984!! Cool

Wow, what a week. Where do I start. We cut grain until the middle of the week and got snowed out. When the combines could run without breakdowns.( two wobble boxes!) Bailey was home from school for Fall Break and she and I got to enjoy the stomach flu together. So much fun. ha ha. Our dishwasher broke and was not worth fixing. But through it all feel so blessed. Yes I got a new dishwasher yeh! Bailey and I are now well and Stacy and Dalan did not have to experience it. And most amazingly we finished cutting grain yesterday all except 15 acres! The ox was in the mire and it dried out enough yesterday to go cut before the predicted snow storm. Jim Douglass came and drove a combine, Dalan was on combine, Cleve came and drove truck and then with Stacy, Bailey and I we kept everyone going. We worked until it started to snow but cut 100 acres or so. We feel so blessed! These pictures are of Monday morning.
